Resonance Tracking & Amplifier Electronics

Some piezoelectric actuators are driven at resonance. But resonance can shift as the environment and/or the actuators changes. This is especially true with ultrasonic actuators which can deteriorate over time. The customer had an ultrasonic probe actuator, but it needed electronics to drive the piezo at the appropriate voltage and frequency.

The Solution

The customer worked with Piezo.com and our electrical engineers to design a custom amplifier circuit that can track the resonance of the actuator. It does this by periodically sensing the feedback and adjusting the drive resonance to maximize the feedback/performance.

The electronics also amplify the 5 volt supply the customer's electronics provide to more easily integrate with the rest of the system.

The Results

The electronics have been fielded for over 10 years without failure.
